Tell me about yourself

Post by heuristically_alone »

It would be fun to hear stories of what people have been up in the last couple years or so.

I started a window cleaning business 4 ish years ago which was doing great in until COVID came around and crushed 99% of my business to the ground. I worked for the Census Bureau during the 2020 census and then started a job at Amazon which I've come to really enjoy. Starting this week I'm part of the management team for two new warehouses opening up in my state and will be busy with flow control with the new employees and volume for the months to come.

Lots of stuff happened! I changed jobs twice (hopefully gonna stay a bit longer at this one, but I have a good feeling about it), bought a house, and got a girlfriend.

I went from commuting 2+ hrs./day working tech support at a small MSP to commuting ~25 min./day working tech support at a small software developer, which was a massive improvement in overall quality-of-life (to say nothing of being easier on my poor old VW...!) Got the plague, pulled through with no lasting ill effects other than completely ruining my Thanksgiving weekend >:( I've started recording another long-form progressive-rock suite, about a decade since my last one, but that's gotten a little sidetracked since, post-plague, I finally decided the hell with it and started writing a standalone novel, which I've been serializing since April (not gonna link it here, since it's under my other-self from another corner of the Internet, but it's on a fairly popular chintzy fiction site, updates on Fridays, and appears to be the only web novel in the universe not to feature either sexy vampires or someone's waifu on the cover.)

Living my life out here in the Land of the Rising Sun.

Working from home due to COVID and loving it (the WFH bit, that is) as it dropped my commute from 90minutes each way to about 90 seconds on a slow day.

Other than that, still getting older, still drinking beer, still playing games.

forum went down while i was living in france for 6 months and i've been back home in perth, australia since november 2019

had an 8 year relationship end and that same week started a new relationship that is at like 15 months so like, i don't think i fucked up on a rebound thing?

still working the same job (traffic engineer), still have the same dog, still have the same husband (poly since 10 years ago)

took up running during covid. currently recovering from a running injury. ugh.

covid wasn't realy a thing in perth: you've probably heard on the news that all of australia is under lockdown but we aren't over here and idk how we got so lucky but here we are, never had community spread. just waiting for enough of us to get vaccinated that we can open the borders again. really want to go overseas and see the people i miss from France!
